Man charged in attempted armed robbery at Myrtle Beach charity


On March 14, just before 4:30 p.m., Myrtle Beach Police Dept. responded to Associated Charities on Lumber Street for reports of an armed robbery.

The responding officer met with the victims, who said a man wearing dark clothes and a face mask walked into the receiving area door, which was open, and demanded them to give their purses and money while pointing a handgun at them, per an incident report.

The report added that the victims ran into a closet for safety while the suspect ran east on 8th Avenue North. The suspect did not get any property from the victims.

Alexander Browne was charged in the incident with five counts of attempted armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and felson in possession of a firearm.

According to online records, he remains incarcerated at J Reuben Long Detention Center.
